Striped tippi + bubble in pink

Striped tippi (size small): J.Crew, fall 2012
Silk peter pan collar top (size 4):  J.Crew, 2010
Skinny jeans (size 6 Long) Banana Republic, 2009
Boots:  Coach, 2009
Bubble necklace & earrings in neon azalea:  J.Crew, summer 2012

Sunday evening once again!  The weekends just fly by around here.  We had a birthday party for my middle son who is turning 6 today, and here is what I wore.  We went to one of those places with a bunch of huge bouncy castles where the kids ran around like maniacs for 2 hours, and I felt way overdressed.  Apparently 90% of the general population believes that putting on clothing other than huge hoodies and sweatpants is too much work. Why I ask you?   It can't be good for one's state of mind to dress like that and be seen in public.  I witnessed firsthand today what Stacy and Clinton call the "pajamafication of America."  Anyway, don't worry... I didn't feel bad or out of place, even though I was overdressed.  What would make me feel bad?  Schlepping around in  sweats and gym shoes all the time.

What are your thoughts on the pamajafication of America?

  1. Yeah, isn't it weird that we are the ones who feel bad when we overdress? Why is that? The ladies from earlier eras would probably still think we are underdressed, what would they do if they saw the pjs on the streets? I sense we might need "smelling salts" to revive them. Ha. ;)

I love this outfit and I think it looks exactly right for a birthday party. Bright, fun, casual, yet dressy enough to show the world you care.

Happy Birthday to your little man. Mine turns six next month, I hadn't realized our boys were almost the same age!

    1. I agree, pajamas in public is a travesty!

Time flies when you have kids, doesn't it?

  2. Hi! Long time reader but first time commenter. Jus wanted to let you know that I love your style! I may not love all outfits, but I love at least 90% of them :). I work in a very corporate environment (NYC Wall Street Type) and I love how you mix color with professional clothing. Great inspiration as I feel so sad in a sea of black (which is most of NYC unfortunately).

Regarding the "pajamification" you mentioned. It really is sad. It doesn't take that much effort to look put together! My sister recently yelled at me for wearing a dress at a gun range! Is there some unwritten rule that we need to look crappy if we are shooting guns???

  3. LOL that is hilarious! I love Stacy and Clinton - they are a riot! And I know what you mean, I think pajamification is okay when you're younger and you don't know how to dress yourself, but there comes a time when you need to start wearing actual clothes to be taken seriously. Those people who stay in pjs need help!

Looooove this outfit - its such a sweet look, the pan collar is PERFECT for the sweater. And I'm glad you like my new TB boots, they are a dream. Totally worth the splurge. Well only since they were on sale really :P

  5. You can never be overdressed or overeducated- Oscar Wilde

My sister and I refer to this quote when wondering if we're overdressed. Rebel against the pajamification!

  6. Hi- I am so behind on my blog reading. I love your Lilly dress and your OOTD for this post. I tried on the striped sweater but the colors were not good for me. I love it with the bubble necklace, even though I never would have thought to put them together. BTW, I don't think you are overdressed one iota. I think you are dressed. Pajamas, and sweat like pieces I believe are the definition of undressed.
